The Aramaic Lord's Prayer
- Week 3 -
8:15-9:00 AM, Monday - Friday, Presbyterian House Sanctuary
The prayer we know as The Lord's Prayer (the "Our Father") when translated directly from its original Aramaic, offers a deep understanding of the beauty and depth of Jesus' teachings.
Aramaic is an ancient mantric language, like Sanskrit, and thus offers subtle levels of meaning and sound qualities that greatly enrich our experience of the prayer.
In these sessions we will examine the words of Jesus as he spoke them in Aramaic, experience the unique sound qualities of these words, and share translations from Aramaic that provide a rich, expanded experience of the teachings.
Each class will concentrate on a different section of the prayer and draw on the work of Dr. Neil Douglas-Klotz, author of Prayers of the Cosmos, Desert Wisdom, and other books on native Middle Eastern spirituality.
James Leff is a longtime student of religion and mysticism. He has studied extensively with Dr. Neil Douglas-Klotz and has taught the Aramaic Lord's Prayer for many years in Rochester, NY. He is a practicing Doctor of Chiropractic, a leader of the Dances of Universal Peace, and an initiate in the Inayati Sufi Order.
